Return To Programming Basics

Why not taking two steps back to tap new resources and seizing new territory

Almost 22 months after finishing my thesis project about software as medium and software art, I finally made the first steps to brush up my dusty and almost forgotten Java programming and Processing basics. It feels refreshing to get back to this field after a period of creating mostly static images and screen designs. I’m curious to see what happened in the meantime and how things evolved in my absence.

Collecting useful resources which can serve as a starting point for further investigation and research…

  • Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and sound
  • The board for Processing (BETA)
  • Processing hacks is an effort to document some of the trickier and more advanced topics that Processing users are stumbling across as they gain experience and cross-fertilise their work with other platforms, languages and libraries
  • del.icio.us – All items tagged processing.org
  • CodeTree, a social networking community created to bring new media artists, programmers, and students using Adobe Flash and Proce55ing together
  • Generatorx.no – Generator.x is a conference and exhibition examining the current role of software and generative strategies in art and design
  • Code & Form is a blog supporting the coding and teaching activities of Marius Watz
  • Processingblogs.org aggregates blogs about Processing from around the world
  • v3ga – Bits and Blobs
  • toxi.in.process processing related bloggings
  • Setpixel is a collection of articles written by a small group of like-minded individuals. General focus: interactive installations, aesthetics through computation, reactive experiments and creative computer vision
  • Libraries – Extending Processing beyond graphics and images…
  • Gestalt – an open structured environment, designed to prototype and develop OpenGL- and Java-based sketches and applications
  • Handbuch der Java-Programmierung (german only)
  • Gestalten Mit Code – Programming basics course by Dennis Paul
