Untitled_05 Revisited

A Java based interface designed to explore raster-noton's multifaceted back catalogue

I’m currently revisting Untitled_05 - a Java based interface that was part of my thesis project I realized in 2005. The main idea behind this piece of software was to create a generative visual sign for “raster-noton - archiv für ton und nichtton” run by Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai which “is meant to be a platform and network covering the overlapping border areas of pop, art and science”.

Initial approach was to create a virtual representation of raster-noton’s artistic and material output since 1999 which manifests itself in a multifaceted back catalogue that consists of about 70 releases by now.

Besides the visual part of the project the software is also designed as an interface to interact with Cycling’s Max/Msp and provides several ways to create generative compositions and visuals based on the contextual relations between individual items and elements of the labels release catalogue.

While rethinking and refining the visual aesthetic of the interface, I’m also working on a detailed documentation that should be available in the “Work” section soon. In the meantime you can visit the following page that provides an improved applet version of Untitled_05.
